Notice Of Race ______________ NOVA SCOTIA MATCH RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS BEDFORD BASIN YACHT CLUB SEPTEMBER 7 - 9, 2001 _____________________________________________________________ 1. Organizing Authority The Organizing Authority will be the Bedford Basin Yacht Club. 2. Venue The venue will be Bedford Basin, NS. 3. Event Grading This event is not graded. 4. Prize presentation to follow the end of racing. 5. Skippers Eligibility a) Up to eight (8) teams including the defending champion will be invited. Teams must have seven (7) crew including the skipper. The skipper and at least 3 of the crew shall be fully paid up members of a recognized yacht club or Class Association that they represent or approved in advance by the Race Chairman. In the case of the skipper representing an invited Yacht Club, the club shall be a member in good standing of CYA. In the case of a skipper representing an invitee Class Association, the skipper shall be a member of a recognized yacht club which is a member fully paid up in good standing of CYA. Only skippers representing recognized yacht clubs or Class Associations or invited by the organizing authority will be eligible to enter this event. b) The designated skipper shall helm the yacht at all times while racing, except in an emergency. c) To remain eligible, the skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing (fax is acceptable) to be received by the date specified in the invitation. 6. Entries a) The team shall be deemed to be entered on completion of registration and the payment of all fees and deposits. b) All applications for entry must be received in writing by letter or fax before August 28 in order to be considered. 6.1 Entry Fee A non-refundable entry fee of $200 shall be paid by 1000 September 7, 2001 6.2 Damage Deposit a) An initial damage deposit of $500 shall be paid no later than September 7, 2001, unless extended by the organizing authority. This deposit is the maximum payable by the team as a result of any one incident. b) Any remaining deposit after the event will be refunded by October 1, 2001. c) In the event that a deduction from the damage deposit is decided by the organizing authority it may require the deposit to be restored to it's original amount before the skipper will be permitted to continue the event. 7. Rules a) The event will be governed by the rules and defined in the RRS, and including Appendix C. b) The rules for the handling of boats will apply, and will also apply to any practice sailing and sponsor races. Class rules will not apply. c) The national authority prescriptions will not apply. 8. Boats and Sails a) The event will be sailed in J29 class boats. The boats will be equalized to the satisfaction of the organizing authority, and may not meet class rules. b) Four (4) boats will be provided. c) The following sails will be provided for each boat: Mainsail, Jib, Spinnaker. d) Boats will be allocated by draw, either daily, of for each round as decided by the race committee. 9. Crew, including skipper a) The number of crew shall be seven (7), including the skipper. All registered crew shall sail all races. b) When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event, the organizing authority may authorize an original crew member to substitute. c) When a crew member is unable to continue in the event, the organizing authority may authorize a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment. 10. Event Format a) The event will consist of a round robin, semi-final and final. b) If a tie in the round robin must be broken to determine advancement to the semi-final, the tie will be broken by a sail off. c) If the round robin ends in a tie for first place, the tie will be broken by a sail off. d) The organizing authority may vary the format, terminate or eliminate any round, when conditions do not permit completion of the intended format, or the number of entries warrants a change in format. 11. Course a) The course will be windward leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind. b) The course will be within the confines of Bedford Basin, and conditions permitting is intended to be within Bedford Bay. 12. Advertising a) As boats will be supplied by the Organising Authority, Appendix 1, regulation 20.3.3 applies. Each boat will be required to display advertising as supplied by the OA. b) The Organising Authority intends to supply the following equipment. Appendix 1, regulation 20.3.3 will apply and Category C advertising as supplied by the OA and is to be displayed on this equipment. c) Competitors may be permitted to display advertising ashore at the venue. 13 Prizes a) The winner of the event shall be declared the Nova Scotia Match Racing Champion. b) The principal prize for first place will be the David Forsythe Trophy. 14. Media Images and Sound The organizing authority may require television personnel and equipment (or dummies) to be carried on board while racing and may require competitors to be available for interviews. The organizing authority shall have the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of charge. 15. Spare 16. Spare 17. The organizing authority, it's associates and appointees accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury, or inconvenience incurred, howsoever caused. A release, waiver and indemnity form will be provided for signatures. 18. Participation Entries will only be accepted from invited skippers and yacht clubs.
